Ecological integrity provides for the stability and resilience of a forest ecosystem through fundamental interactions between structure and function by resisting damage or responding quickly to disturbance. A forest’s integrity is based on its silvicultural components including vegetation, soil, hydrology, and organisms in the landscape. By their nature, urban forests lack strong integrity, but through better silvicultural design, it can be strengthened to help support long-term viability.
