The Coptic diaspora is one of the fastest growing Christian diasporas in Toronto. Concepts such as identity, authenticity, exclusivity, and innovation are incredibly important when constituting and situating belonging within diasporic communities. This thesis proposes a new building for a School for Coptic Christian Icon Painters, with studios and a combined worship/exhibition space, as a means of bringing together and solidifying connections between the various Coptic communities throughout the GTA.
