Devon Canfor is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is shaped by her studies in visual and urban studies. Central to her practice is the exploration of urban environments, investigating how spaces and structures influence both society and the individual. Using a variety of materials, including photography, installations, and found objects, Canfor encourages reflection on the complex relationships between people and the spaces they occupy. She is also deeply interested in how progress can serve as a focal point in her artwork.

Artist Statement

Swept under explores the irony of man-made solutions to environmental issues, focusing on the trend of covering landfills with artificial green spaces. These quick fixes conceal the underlying problem without addressing the root cause. Through a mixed-media diorama, I hand weave a green space to highlight the carelessness of such solutions. Beneath the hill, garbage and furniture are exposed to reveal the persistent, unbroken waste that will endure for years. The piece is set on a desk, symbolizing a person’s attempt to solve the problem without considering long-term consequences. While nature may reclaim space, the toxic waste remains.
