Forestry student receives scholarship to attend the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Annual Conference in Virginia

From October 22-24, I had the privilege of being one of two lucky Canadian students that received a scholarship to attend the Sustainable Forestry Initiative Annual Conference in Richmond, Virginia. The SFI hosted several amazing speakers, including a manager from Project Learning Tree promoting Green Jobs across Canada on a wooden bike and speakers discussing the role of SFI certification in conservation and wood products. Others discussed forest conservation from a religious perspective and through the experience of African-American land owners. The experience was amazing and our hosts went to great lengths to engage student attendees. There were volunteer mentors to offer advice and facilitate introductions, as well as an interactive career building workshop. SFI wants to actively engage with forestry students, and they are hoping to double the number of students and mentors for the 2020 conference in Vancouver.
